the story behind the curated garden

for as long as I can remember I’ve felt most at home outdoors.

my childhood was spent climbing trees, building dirt jumps in the woods, and exploring forgotten landscapes around my home in Manchester. it was through these adventures that I felt most free, vital and inspired.

those early experiences taught me the quality of our lives is underpinned by nature. that when we spend more time outside, our lives are improved overall.

however, over the years - and particularly through my professional practice - I began to notice that in cities the space for nature was shrinking. not only were public parks and common land less accessible (or almost none-existent in Dubai) but also most homes were becoming devoid of nature; they were being built closer together, with thousands of small gardens paved over or covered in plastic grass.

surely their owners feel disconnected from nature?

I realised many people didn’t have the privilege I had as a child. growing up this way was something I took for granted at the time. many urban souls don’t grow up with enough exposure to nature to feel this innate relationship (although it’s in all of us somewhere, of this I’m certain).

over time I became frustrated that my profession simply wasn’t able to reach all these forgotten spaces. it felt like I was letting people down.

a new way to design for smaller spaces

when I started WILDEN, it was with a belief that every garden, no matter how small, could hold space for all life to flourish; flora, fauna, fungi and people.

I wanted to prove that garden design didn’t have to be complicated or so costly it was out of reach. it also shouldn’t be punished with cheap or synthetic materials.

it should still be simple, thoughtful, and deeply connected to its surroundings.

so we began refining a new kind of service. the aim was to distil years of design experience into something clear, professional, and beautiful. quickly, affordably, and without compromise.

the result: WILDEN curated gardens.

the curation process was born from years of sketching, testing and refining. we worked through every detail, including materials, layouts, plants and lighting, until we had designs that could be delivered simply.

we made sure every curated garden used trusted local materials and resilient, climate-adapted plants. every design was layered with character, practicality and quality finishes, without the premium price point. we built all of this into our own garden curator application.

more than anything, the curator is designed to give people confidence. to let them explore their design, understand the costs, and know their garden will be built on time and to a fixed budget.

why it matters

a small garden, designed with thought and care, can change the way you live. it can draw you outside in the morning light, offer a place to share meals, watch the children play, or unwind at the end of the day.

gardens have a quiet power to soften the edges of life. they slow us down, help us pause more, and remind us what’s important for a full life.
